Geographical Characteristics
Zimbabwe has no seaside and it is formed of mountains and plateaus. The High Veld Mountains occupies 25% of the territory and its highest peak is Inyangani (2593m). Around High Veld we find Middle Veld with a height between 900-1200m and surrounding Middle Veld is Low Veld. The main rivers are Zambezi in the north side and Limpopo and Sabi in the south side. Population
98% of the people are Bantu, 1% white people and 1% Asians. 26% of the inhabitants live in urban regions. Harare, also known as Salisbury in the past, was formed in 1890 and is the main commercial center. Bulawayo ( 413.800 inhabitants) is an industrial center and has railways with Harare, Zambia and Botswana.
Agriculture
The main occupation in Zimbabwe is definitely agriculture (70% of the working people). Also 7% of Zimbabwe's surface is used for the cultivation of plants and 13% for growing animals. The corn is the most cultivated plant, but they also cultivate grain, millet, barley and soy. Tobacco is also cultivated here, mostly in High Veld , near Harare. It brings over 40% of the total incomes from exports. Zimbabwe also produces coffee, sugar, cotton and fruits. They grow cows, goat, sheep and pigs. The rivers and the lakes are full of fishes and the inhabitants have nursery pond.
Mining and Industry
The Cr, gold, asbestos, Ni, Cu, iron ore, Sn, and Co are important sources of income. They also have a pretty developed food, drinks and clothing industry. Zimbabwe has steel factories, chemical and wood factories. The electrical energy is obtained in the hydro-electric stations in 40% especially in Barajul and Kariba and the rest are termo-electric power stations.
Transports
Zimbabwe has 2.745 km of railways and 85.784 km of roads. The main railroad is between Harare and Bulawayo, and it extends to the south over Botswana until South Africa Republic
